Pittsburgh Penguins - Her Hockey Day Shirt

Client: Pittsburgh Penguins
Project: Her Hockey Day shirt
Date: March 2026
Deliverables: Shirt design for ticket package giveaway

Each year, the Pittsburgh Penguins host heritage games to celebrate the different cultures and individuals who make our community so special. During the 2025-2026 season, they partnered with different artists to create special shirt giveaways for each heritage night. It was the biggest honor of my career to be chosen to create the shirt for Her Hockey Day 2026!

I was given creative freedom on this project, but it did need to include the Penguins logo and showcase it in a creative way. I'm very passionate about the Penguins and our community, and I began my art career with sports inspired art, so this was one of the easiest projects I've ever worked on because of that. The design idea and execution came together quickly.

  • Sunflowers: joy, loyalty, strength | became a symbol for the US women's suffrage movement in the 1870's
  • Laurel wreath: victory, triumph | adopted by the Ancient Greeks from mythology to represent achievement in athletics
  • Pittsburgh Pennies logo: representing the first women’s hockey team in Pittsburgh as well as supporting the current Pittsburgh Pennies hockey program to support young girls’ access and participation in hockey
  • "Every Woman. Every Shift.": A nod to all of the incredible women in the hockey community and reminding them all that their presence impact every single shift on the ice.
  • Gold, deep charcoal, and cream color palette: gold and white (cream) are heavily used in women’s rights and women’s empowerment movements | staying close to the iconic color scheme of Pittsburgh sports

All components of the design were digitally hand drawn by me on my iPad, with trademarked logos provided by the Penguins for recreation. This project required me to convert raster files on Procreate into vector files on Adobe Illustrator. This design was drawn using HEX color codes then converted to both CMYK and Pantone for the manufacturer's reference and use. I created several different sticker designs inspired by the shirt project.

As a lifelong Penguins fan, this project was my dream come true! It also inspired many, many other dreams to continue partnering with teams from different leagues, sports, and communities. I'm so excited for the opportunity to continue sharing my passion for sports through artwork!
